A 32-year-old woman from Lafayette was killed in a three vehicle accident. The accident occurred in West Baton Rouge Parish on Interstate 10 on the morning of Monday, November 15. It is not entirely clear what initially caused the car and multiple truck accident.
The 32-year-old woman was driving eastbound on Interstate 10 in her 2003 Ford Expedition close to the intersection of Louisiana Highway 415. The woman’s vehicle hit the back end of a 51-year-old man’s 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck. The woman lost control of her vehicle after striking the pickup truck and crossed over the median of Interstate 10. The woman’s SUV turned clockwise as the vehicle traveled into the opposing set of lanes. After entering the westbound side of the interstate, a flatbed truck hit the driver’s side of the woman’s vehicle. The young woman was thrown out of the vehicle as a result of the impact.
According to state police, the Lafayette woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The 51-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash according to state police, and the 29-year-old driver of the flatbed truck experienced moderate injuries from the crash. The 29-year-old was transported to a local hospital.
State police do not believe that any of the drivers were under the influence at the time of the truck accident. The driver of the pickup took a sample breathalyzer at the scene of the accident and there were not any signs of alcohol. Blood samples were taken from the 32-year-old woman and the flatbed truck driver for substance analysis. Results have not yet been returned. Many Vero Beach law firms have taken cases like these.
